Medellín has been hailed worldwide as a beacon for using modern development to transform rough, crime-ridden neighbourhoods into thriving, tourist-friendly communities. It’s difficult to visit Medellin without encountering some mention of the 1980’s drug lord Escobar and the impact he had on the city. However, the fall of one man’s rein has allowed the introduction of new ingenious infrastructure, the growth of beautiful public spaces and many more luxury offerings.

Bogota Region

• A city cradled by the Andean summits as well as encompassed by the rivers and jungles of the Amazon, Bogota serves as the perfect birth spot to being your maiden South American voyage. These are exciting times for the resurrecting capital and cultural hub of Colombia. Bogota, being the switchboard for Colombia’s nerve centre, is surely enjoying the wrath of tourism on the rise as it has since seen a surge in local entrepreneurs, boutique hotels and even craft breweries. We welcome you to one of South America’s great cities who, among others, are prospering on the Colombia’s peace. 

Cartagena Region

• Located in the north of the country on the Caribbean Sea and is the capital of the Bolivar region, Cartagena de Indias was founded as an important Spanish port in 1533 also gaining UNESCO world heritage status. This attractive old-world type city evokes such a collage of experiences, starting with its colourful cultural festivals, it’s well-preserved ancient architecture, the excitement of a vivid nightlife, rich landscapes and several archipelagos and islands to truly relax while soaking up the warm tropical sea breeze.  An escape to this 16th century hedonistic gem wouldn’t be complete without a splash of its much-publicized beverage “limonada de coco” (coconut lemonade) as it’s an utterly delightful way to beat the heat! 

Cali Region

• Beyond its handful of colonial churches and museums, you’ll find vibrant nightlife, restaurants that offer mouthwatering authentic dishes and old towns like San Antonio that have a lineup of hipster and antique shops. Although not as developed as Bogota and neither as refined as Medellin, this southwest Colombian city has more to offer than what meets the eye.

Villavicencio and Llanos (Plains) East Region

• To travel to the ‘Wild East’ of Colombia is to experience the folkloric lifestyle of the locals in Los Llanos and Villavicencio. Consisting mostly of sprawling, seasonally flooded plains or savannahs, this part of the country impresses with its charming haciendas, idyllic rivers, over 350 bird species, and diverse flora and fauna. Untouched by mass tourism, the Eastern plains of Colombia offers an authentic cultural experience and a paradise to birding enthusiasts and lovers of nature.

Amazon and Deep Jungle South Region
