Amazon Jungle
- No amount of nature documentaries can brief you about how vast and teeming with life the Amazon Jungle is. Covering a large chunk of the southeast region of Colombia, the world’s most revered rainforest is the perfect place to immerse yourself in nature and tranquility. Say hello to the jaguars, crocodiles, and monkeys you’ll meet during your trek here and discover the jungle’s hidden wonders as you cruise up and down the river.
Cano Cristales (Crystal Canyons)
- In the heart of the Sierra de la Macarena National Natural Park is Caño Cristales, the most beautiful river in the world. Also known as the “River of Five Colors” or the “Liquid Rainbow”, Caño Cristales is a unique biological wonder as it turns multicolored several months a year. The eruption of algae transforms the crystal-clear water into a river of vibrant colors that contrasts magically with its surroundings – you absolutely have to see to believe it.
Sierra (Northeast Mountains)
- Located northeast of Colombia is the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, a place where rich and profound nature converges with the authentic culture of the indigenous people of the country. Oblivious to the buzz of the city of Santa Marta below, this interesting mountain ranges offer breathtaking views of the snowcapped summits of Mt. Colón and Mt. Bolivar, unique birdwatching experience, and streams and waterfalls that are as pristine as they can be. For those seeking peace and tranquility, Sierra Nevada is the place to be.
Darien (Frontier Rainforest)
- Close to a 100km stretch of unending, virtually unspoiled jungle which hedges the border between Panama and Colombia. The Darien Gap is a barbarous no-man’s land
Swarming with everything from poisonous reptiles to gun-toting narcotraffickers and guerilla fighters. This road-less swath of primeval forest is largely untouched by the modern world, as it’s the only break in an almost 50,000km stretch of Pan-American Highway, which slithers its way through 14 countries which in reality connects the two poles. As one of the least visited places on the planet even for the most storied adventurers, it still somehow seduces thousands of migrants a year with its fabled almost folkloric allure. An otherworldly land full of exotic plants, indigenous natives and some of the rarest wildlife on the planet combined with an all-consuming sixth sense of heightened awareness wondering if your next step will be your last.
Cuidad Perdida (Lost City)
- Hidden deep in the rainforest of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountains in Colombia lies Ciudad Perdida the “Lost City.” Upon rediscovery in the 1970’s this archaeological site perched on hillsides and built by the Tayrona people more than 1,000 years ago has rapidly become a world wonder. Being so isolated from civilization due to its remote location in the South American jungle this destination has created one of the best trekking excursions south of the equator. A gruelling 44km multi-day hike through several river crossings and steep climbs along the highest coastal mountain range in the world will allow you to witness its beauty firsthand. No doubt you will have the opportunity to interact with the indigenous communities of the Kogi and Wiwa people who still inhabit the area all the while preserving the traditions of the Tayronas. This unforgettable 4 day experience connecting not only with ancient culture but Mother Nature wouldn’t come without a climactic finish as you ascend 1,200 stone steps to the very top forcing your mind, body and spirit to have to prove everything it’s capable of!
